Workshops on: LinkedIn, Bluesky, Mastodon, X (Twitter), and other social media platforms, custom-made for you and your colleagues

Do you and your research group struggle to reach all the people affected by your research? Does your institution need to connect more effectively with funding sources, journalists and policymakers? Do you want to amplify the policy impact of your science?

If you’ve answered yes to any of these questions, then this workshop will be an invaluable resource for you and your institution.

You will learn how to:

  • Identify the people and organizations most relevant to your research
  • Build meaningful connections with peers and stakeholders
  • Use LinkedIn and other platforms to discover opportunities in your field
  • Increase the visibility of your research among the right audiences
  • Develop a sustainable social media routine that fits your research practice
  • Draw attention to your research, your colleagues, and your institution

By using platforms like LinkedIn — and alternatives like Bluesky, Mastodon, X (Twitter), and Reddit — you can identify key people and conversations in your field, discover new opportunities, and strengthen your visibility among the audiences most relevant to your research.

Boost your research impact

In the workshop you will be introduced to sustainable routines, augmented by AI tools, for identifying and connecting with stakeholders, monitoring important conversations in your field, and communicating with specific audiences.

We will:

  • Map out the stakeholders, organizations, and networks connected to your research
  • Set up personalized, and partially automated, systems for monitoring opportunities and conversations
  • Develop routines for communication that fit your existing research practice
  • Refine your professional online presence
  • Use social media strategically to support your collaborations, funding, and research impact

The workshop will position you as an expert source for journalists, policymakers, and collaborators.

You will identify the strategy that best aligns with your own schedule and area of expertise. And you will leave with a sustainable routine for communication and networking that complements your existing research practice.

We encourage our researchers to be active on platforms like Twitter and Linkedin. This is to communicate our accomplishments, to foster better research, and to engage with our scientific peers at home and abroad. Mike’s workshop was motivating and inspiring!

I invited Mike to instruct a virtual workshop ‘Leveraging Twitter’ for postdocs and graduate students at our institute, The University of Texas MD Anderson Cancer Center. It was very helpful and we learned great tips about networking. For me, the best part was understanding the importance of branding in our field, and how to improve it.
